Roch'n Mode 2014

Each year in June, an interesting event is organized in the quartier Saint Roch, just in front of the church. The fashion designers (clothes & accessories) of the surroundings present their creations in a fashion défilé, and some exhibitions, workshops, and eventually a concert take place around it.
June is a busy month for the local reporters: after the Comédie du Livre, the férias, Printemps des comédiens (theater), Festival Montpellier Danse, Festival Radio France, festival des fanfares (bigbands), Architectures vives, opening of new exhibitions...

Roch'n Mode exists since 2008.
I started following it because I liked Elisa Johnston and Zoïd... and it made me discover Lili et Cie and Mir.a. I was happy today to see La Juperaie too. Don't expect a traditionnal défilé with teenage girls pretending to become models wearing copies of Zara clothes. The models are friends, neighbours, familly, customers of the designers: kids, students, pregnant women, grand-mothers. They play the game well enough: they play characters with references to movies, or dance, or play sketches. It is original and personnal, an invitation to be beautifully oneself.
Montpellier being Montpellier, of course, the audience doesn't like the audience. Mothers of big children who put their hair, nose and hands in your pictures will protest against your small children dancing close to their jacket. Mothers might get mad at each others, children are globally happy. Soap balls, serpentines, confettis, music, other children... what a party.
Fortunately, in 6 years, no model has ever fallen on a baby crawling away from his/her distracted parents.
Fortunately also, they always found a day for the défilés, and it isn't easy. Roch'n Mode often takes place on the same day as the Gay pride, as the place in front of the church is often free those days: very few religious weddings. This year the LGBT March will be on July 12th. The organizers of Roch'n Mode also need chairs, so it can't take place the week-end of the Comédie du Livre. Nice challenge...
