Procrastination: I have to write a page on an historical topic, and another on a painful historical/political topic, plus administrative files to prepare. I wouldn't be efficient on those matters. Let's be efficient on other matters, with the hope it will be stimulating and spare me lots of guilt. Life is a fight!
Who is Fred?
Not Frédéric Othon Théodore Aristidès, though he was one of my favourite authors. It is an extremely tragic, for non french-speakers, that his books have not been translated in foreign laguages. But pretty women were not central in his work. They are much more present, often as a kind ok klimtian mermaids, in the paintings of Frédérique Dupuis, a young woman who certainly deserves success.
Frédérique Dupuis paints, draws and teaches. She has no time left to keep her website alive, but you can find her at a virtual adress corresponding to a collective workshop and exhibition place: En Traits libres. She studied arts in Lyon, at the Emile Cohl school. There should be an english version of the site, as well as a japaneese one, but in Summer, workers tend to lack coordination. This school fights against the disparition of drawing as a way of representing the world. Good idea indeed... In french schools, drawing is nowadays called graphism, and it is reduced to a specifically childish way of representation and a playfull way to teach how to use a pen, as an introduction to writing. Just a step on the evolution of the computer-user. Drawing is turnt into a rather useless hobby. There is a great drawing collection in Montpellier, which belongs to the Medecine Faculty. Run there if you love art enough not to be scared of being called elitist: Musée Atger.
Frédérique Dupuis published 2 children books, tender and sweet. I personnally prefer, as a grown-up, her paintings.
